Navigation menu is the main part of the blog as it interlinks all the important pages of the blog. Generally it’s placed on the top of the blog/website, so here we’ll learn –
HOW TO CREATE A NAVIGATION MENU:
- Navigate to WP Dashboard > Appearance > Menus
- From the drop-downs on the left, choose the content to add to your menu.
- Nest & position menu items by dragging & dropping them.
- Be sure to check the box to set the menu as “Primary menu“
- Save menu
Adding Home Link :
To add a link in navigation menu which directs the users to the “home-page”, select the Custom Link drop-down menu on the left of the screen. Enter the url of the “homepage” in the “URL box” and give it a proper title by adding some text in the “Link Text“. Save the changes you have made.
Adding Category Page to Menu :
To add a category page to navigation menu, select the Categories drop-down menu on the left of the screen. Check the category you wish to display in navigation menu and save the changes.
PS: Be sure to add the category to at least one page or the categories will not display in the drop-down menu box of the navigation menu editor.
Adding Empty Menu :
Sometimes it becomes necessary to add an menu-item with empty url which when clicked doesn’t direct you anywhere on the website/blog. It’s useful for the parent beneath which there are list of child menus.
For e.g. there is a empty menu item “Category” which lists all the categories of the blog as shown in the below screen.
