Note : This documentation guide is specifically for the TheHouston WordPress Theme.

THEHOUSTON WORDPRESS THEME DOCUMENTATION:
A how-to guide and helpful informations about options and features of the TheHouston WordPress theme. Step by step easy tutorials are written describing each feature & functions of the theme so that you can very easily master our themes.

Make sure WordPress Is Up To Date!

“TheHouston theme” runs on the latest version of the wordpress. So be sure that you have installed the latest version of wordpress in your blog, otherwise update it before uploading our theme.

Uploading the “TheHouston theme” in outdated wordpress can cause several errors and problems, so it’s recommeneded to have a updated version of WordPress


INSTALLING THE THEME

When you purchase a TheHouston theme’s license from ThemeForest & download the theme package, you will receive a zipped folder titled “themeforest-18924697-caprice-a-creative-blog-theme.zip“.
Unzip this first folder.

Within the unzipped theme package, you will find a number of folders such as demo content, documentation, logo image files, etc. There is also 1 additional zipped folder within, titled “caprice.zip“.

Important: DO NOT unzip this “thehouston.zip” folder! This particular .zip folder should remain zipped.

 

“thehouston.zip” is the main theme.

  • Within your WordPress Dashboard, navigate to Appearance > Themes.
  • Click the “Add New” button at the top-left of the page > Click the “Upload Theme” button at the top.
  • Click “Choose File” > find your zipped “thehouston.zip” file > Click the “Install Now” button.

 

Once the theme is successfully installed on your WordPress, you can “Activate” it via the installation page or via Appearance > Themes to switch over and begin using your TheHouston WordPress theme!

Please note: If you try installing the entire zipped theme package or another incorrect file, you’ll likely receive this error message:

The package could not be installed. The theme is missing the style.css stylesheet. Theme install failed.

If you receive this error message, please be sure that you’re installing the ZIPPED file titled “thehouston.zip“.

INSTALLING PLUGINS

After successful installation of the theme, you’ll need to install the required plugins for the theme as some of the features in our theme works only with the installation of the required plugins.

  • Navigate to Appearance > Install Plugins within your WordPress dashboard,
  • A page will appear which displays the list of plugins to be installed on your blog.
  • You can easily select and install the plugins from this section of the WordPress Dashboard.

 

Note: Be sure to install the plugins like Kirki, One Click Demo Import as this plugin is needed for the proper functioning of the theme.

IMPORT DEMO CONTENT

With our One Click Demo Import you can easily choose any of the demo and import it to your blog withing the count of few minutes. But before proceeding, be sure that you have installed the One Click Demo Import plugin on your blog as it would be needed for this purpose.

Click on any of the demo displayed on the screen and click on the Import button. Wait a while as it may take a while to import all the contents, widgets and customizer settings.

You will get a success message on your screen after the importing has been successful.

HEADER – LAYOUT

With our theme TheHouston you can easily switch your blog header to any of the below header styles. Classic, Background – Header, Dark – Header, Dark – Sticky Header, Light – Header, Light – Sticky Header.

For this you will need to navigate to Appearance > Customize, there go to Header > Header – General and select the layout for your header there.

 

Do not forget to save the changes you have made in customizer.


WELCOME TEXT IN HEADER

You can add any announcement or simple a welcome text with the feature welcome text in your blog. It would be very easy for you use this feature.

 

Simply navigate to Header > Header – Welcome Text and make the necessary changes there after adding your text.

CREATING A POST

TheHouston WordPress Theme supports 5 types of post format Standard, Gallery, Image, Audio and Video. You can choose any of the above formats for your blog posts.

  • To create a new post, navigate to WordPress Dashboard > Posts > Add New, there
  • A new window with post editor will open up.
  • Write your post’s title, content and add featured image in the respective fields.
  • After adding all the fields, hit the Publish button.

CREATING A PAGE

A standard, static page is similar to creating a post in many ways and is ideal for creating an About Me or Contact Me page in your blog/website.

To Create a Page using “TheHouston theme”,

  • Navigate to Page > Add New,
  • A new window with post editor will open up.
  • Write your page title, content and add featured image in the respective fields.

Once you’ve published your new page, it will not automatically appear in your main menu. For a tutorial on adding items to your main menu, please check out this: How do I set up my navigation menu?

HOMEPAGE SETTINGS

Your homepage is the first page visitors will see when they arrive at your website. By default, the homepage will be the page that also displays all of your published posts, beginning with the most recent. We call this feature the “post feed”.

To customize look of your blog’s homepage, including its layout, colors, enabling/disabling the sidebar, etc.,

  • Navigate to Appearance > Customize, there
  • Open the Blog Posts & Pages > Blog – Layouts.
  • You can change the layout for your Homepage, Archive, Category & Search, from this section, and after that
  • Save the changes.

 

Be sure to explore the various options within this Customizer section. The live preview on the right will show you a preview of how each adjustment will visually affect your site before you actively apply it.

ADDING A LOGO IMAGE

Logo & favicon are the important part of a blog. Identity of your brand is reflected by it among your audiences. With a perfect logo you can be easily recognized, that’s because we have implemented the option for custom logo in our theme.

To add in your preferred logo image, navigate to WP Dashboard > Appearance > Customize > Logo > Logo & Favicon > Upload Logo > and upload your desired logo image here.

ADDING SOCIAL ICONS

Social media are the essentials parts of the online business, as it exposes your content to a large community in short time. So we have integrated our theme with the social media which you easily add to your blog with very simple steps.

Top Social Icon

  • To upload your logo navigate to Appearance > Customize in your blog’s dashboard,
  • In customizer panel navigate to Header > Top Social Icons, there
  • Add your social media links in the respective fileds, and
  • Save the changes

Footer Social Icon

  • To upload your logo navigate to Appearance > Customize in your blog’s dashboard,
  • In customizer panel navigate to Footer > Footer Social, there
  • Add your social media links in the respective fileds, and
  • Save the changes

ENABLING THE FEATURED AREA SLIDER

TheHouston’s has many layouts for the featured slider. This can be easily customized & setup via customizer options panel.

To customize the Featured Slider:

  • Navigate to Appearance > Customize, there
  • Open the Slider Panel > Slider General, there

 

Be sure you have explored all the options within this Customizer section. The live preview on the right will show you a preview of how each adjustment will visually affect your site before you actively apply it.

SETTING UP YOUR SIDEBAR

A sidebar is a vertical content area that displays to the right of your main content/post area. You customize your sidebar by stacking up different widgets that display a variety of things.

ADDING WIDGETS TO YOUR SIDEBAR:

  • To add, remove, or edit your sidebar widgets, navigate to WP Dashboard > Appearance > Widgets.
  • On the left, you will see a list of the available widgets to choose from.
  • On the right, you will see the 2 widget areas in the theme.
    1. Blog Sidebar
    2. Instagram Gallery – Footer (This appears in footer area.)

To add a widget to your sidebar, simply drag & drop a widget on the left into the widget area titled “Sidebar“.

 


SETTING UP THE FOOTER AREA

The footer area is the lower portion of the theme that will appear on all pages of your site. It can include:

  • Instagram footer area
  • Social icon area
  • Copyright text area

 

 

INSTAGRAM FOOTER AREA:

Similar to the section above regarding “Setting up your Sidebar”, the footer has a widget area titled “Instagram Footer” where you can add in a widget to display your Instagram images in a full-width section. The widget is simply called “Instagram” and is made available after installing & activating the plugin called WP Instagram Widget.

To add the Instagram widget, navigate to WP Dashboard > Appearance > Widgets. On the right, you’ll see the theme’s different widget areas. One of which is the widget area titled “Instagram Footer“.

SOCIAL ICON AREA:

The footer’s social icon area is directly connected with Hazzel’s top-bar social icon area. To choose which social icons you’d like to appear, enter your username for each social network platform within Appearance > Customize > Footer > Footer Social

COPYRIGHT TEXT AREA:

At the very bottom of the theme is a bar which features a text area to include copyright or disclaimer text. You are not required to include a copyright or disclaimer statement. In fact, you can type whatever you’d like in this area!

To edit the footer text area, look within
WP Dashboard > Appearance > Customize > Footer
